The Dao: Tian Ming Ren

Hi friend,

“This book will find the readers who are ready for it. As you read, you may suddenly feel: ‘Isn’t this talking about me?’”
Christopher Chuang, from the Foreword of Tian Ming Ren

Welcome to the level of LOVE.

Think of life as a game with levels. The last level ran on fear: proving, defending, grabbing, holding on. That level is ending. The next one runs on love, and it’s already being built.

Some call it the ecological civilization, or a love civilization: a world where business, people, and the earth grow one another the way a forest does, roots feeding roots underground until separate lives become one living whole. It isn’t somewhere far away, or somewhere you can only dream of. We are already here. All we need to do now is live it out.

That’s what my new book is about. The Dao: Tian Ming Ren (天命人), written with Hui Teng Tan, is out today on Amazon in Kindle and hardcover.

Why this book, and why now

I see expiry dates on things most people assume will last forever: careers, institutions, the old way of doing business, the whole operating system we were raised inside. I also see the expiry date on your tian ming, the mission written into your soul contract. The universe will keep calling you until you answer, or until the window for your activation closes and the work passes to someone else.

That’s why I couldn’t write this one slowly. It took two months from the first interview to a finished manuscript. By every ordinary publishing standard, that’s not possible. But when something is truly aligned, and truly urgent, it moves at the speed of what wants to be born.

Have you ever felt that even when life seems to be going well, something deep inside you is still missing? Or an urgency to do something you can’t quite name? It’s as if a superpower has been sleeping inside you all along, and now it’s asking to be switched on before life can feel right. That feeling is the signature. Perhaps it’s the inner voice leading you toward the mission your life is meant for. This book calls the people who carry it Tian Ming Ren: people born with a contracted life mission.

It isn’t another feel-good spiritual checklist for enlightenment. It is not a motivational speech. It is the true story of Hui Teng Tan, an ordinary woman from Malaysia whose spiritual awakening set her on an extraordinary journey. From fear to courage, from doubt to trust, from resistance to surrender, she came to understand that true awakening isn’t only about connecting with a higher consciousness. It’s about opening your heart, facing your fears, letting go of attachment, and turning awareness into action, until what you know and how you live become one.

Alongside her story are the true stories of other Tian Ming Ren, ordinary people who have awakened to the mission they came here to fulfill. It is a manual, a standard operating procedure, and a love story.

How I found my place in it

My first book, Awakened Purpose, was about waking one person at a time. When I asked how to wake people at scale, the answer led me to a family business leader in Penang, Malaysia, and from there to Hui Teng and the work of TLJ: Truth, Light, Justice.

When Hui Teng read my tian ming, what she saw was what I’d been doing all along. I’m a scribe. My job is to write down how the new world is actually being built, so the people who come after us can follow. This book is the first of many.

The love civilization is here. Will you build it with us?

It won’t arrive as a gift from the sky. We build it, one piece at a time.

In the book, you’ll see what that looks like in real life. A company where every meeting starts with meditation. Where plans are co-created with each person’s inner guidance. Where “business” stops meaning busy-ness and goes back to what the Chinese word 生意 holds inside it: life with meaning.

It starts with loving ourselves. Then it grows, to loving others, all beings, and the Earth. Each of us can be part
of co-creating a new civilization filled with love, wisdom, and conscience.

This book shows you the first step

So where do you begin? Right where you are.

The first step on the path is simply to Ask. Here are three questions the book invites every reader to sit with:

Who am I, without fear and the expectations of others?
Do my thoughts and choices come from love, or from fear?
What is my tian ming, and how can I live it fully?

And here’s a small practice from Chapter 1 you can try today. If something in your life is falling apart or shifting hard, pause before you decide what it means. Ask one question: What is this making space for? Don’t force an answer. Then for the next two weeks, watch what moves toward you without effort. A conversation that feels like recognition. A book someone mentions twice. Notice how those signs guide you.

This book is not the end of the journey. It is the starting point of coming to know yourself again.

This is the day you stop waiting to be chosen and choose to come home.
