Celebrating Moms
Did you know that the original Mother’s Day
was never meant to be commercial?
Anna Jarvis,
who founded Mother’s Day in 1908,
envisioned it as a quiet day of personal sentiment,
a time for handwritten letters and intimate visits.
Not flowers. Not brunch.
Although Mother's Day has just passed,
I invite you to return to its origin.
Through presence, with prayer, and in stillness,
let this week be one of collective gratitude
amplified by the full moon,
may it reflect our deepest love across space and time.
To honor the mothers who birthed us, raised us, and shaped us.
To honor the mothers who are no longer with us,
yet whose love still echoes in our breath and bones.
To honor Mother Earth, who nourishes us unconditionally.
To my own mother in heaven:
Thank you for showing me the meaning of generosity.
To the mothers who sacrifice their dreams
so their children may chase theirs…
To the mothers tirelessly raising children for our future…
To the men and women who take on the sacred role of mother
nurturing through mentorship, community, creativity, and love…
We see you. We bless you. We thank you.
Today, under the full moon:
Sit in stillness.
Place one hand over your heart,
and one over your lower belly.
Breathe deeply.
Silently or aloud, send waves of love to:
your own mother, and
all mothers across the world,
Whisper words of thanks to those who have mothered you…
…and to yourself, for all the ways you nurture life.
In this moment ,
we return to the creation
that lives in each of us.
With purpose and light,
Ryion P.
